P. L. M. Beaulieu sur mer by Pierre Comba captures the sunlit enchantment of the French Riviera at the dawn of modern tourism. Created in 1920 for the famed P.L.M. railway, the poster invites travelers to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, a jewel nestled between Nice and Monaco. Comba channels the lingering spirit of the Belle Époque—romance, ease, and seaside glamour—into a view where sweeping coastline, floral foregrounds, and distant, rugged mountains converge in a scene of unhurried leisure. Lithographic color and crisp, elegant lettering transform the landscape into an irresistible promise of Mediterranean escape.

Available exclusively from The Unique Maps Co., this is a museum-quality fine art print offered on acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas. Choose from a range of sizes, with optional bespoke framing and matting to suit contemporary or classic interiors. Personalization and customization are welcome—add a commemorative date, a family name, or even the coordinates of a favorite lookout to make this Riviera icon uniquely yours.

Pierre Comba was a French painter and illustrator active on the Côte d’Azur in the early twentieth century, known for translating the Riviera’s distinctive light and contours into vibrant posters and watercolors. Working frequently with major rail networks, Comba helped define the visual language of Mediterranean travel, marrying painterly observation with the clarity and impact that lithographic printing demanded. His work stands at the intersection of fine art and graphic design, and his Riviera scenes remain coveted by collectors of early travel ephemera.

This Beaulieu-sur-Mer composition celebrates the coastal resort’s sheltered bays and luxuriant gardens—features that made it a favorite wintering spot for European travelers and a glamorous summer destination for sun-seekers. In 1920, as railways broadened access to France’s southern shores, posters like this played a pivotal role in shaping the Riviera’s international allure. The image evokes the ease of stepping from a P.L.M. carriage into radiant light, azure water, and an amphitheater of hills that feels both intimate and grand.

The colorwork is a masterclass in lithographic nuance. Comba’s palette is led by warm greens and luminous blues, gently accented with rose and coral notes that animate foreground blossoms. A soft gradient sky moves from pale yellow into clear Mediterranean blue, bathing the scene in an airy calm. Organic foliage frames the curving shoreline, while distant mountains add structure and depth; delicate brushwork on the sea and sky contrasts with more defined, textured strokes in the floral foreground. Bold, red letterforms anchor the design with period charm and graphic punch. The result is a timeless Riviera vignette—romantic, inviting, and instantly transportive—ideal for anyone who loves coastal landscapes, vintage typography, and the golden age of rail travel.

Whether you honeymooned on the Côte d’Azur, visited friends on Cap-Ferrat, or simply dream of Mediterranean light, this print makes a thoughtful gift. Perfect for housewarmings, anniversaries, Christmas, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, and for welcoming home someone who’s just returned from the South of France, it brings the elegance and color of the Riviera to any wall.
